CAPT Don Montoro, Deputy Sector Commander, U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego

Captain Don Montoro assumed the duties of Deputy Sector Commander, San Diego in July 2017, where he is responsible for all U.S. Coast Guard missions in San Diego and Imperial

Counties out to 200 nautical miles offshore, as well as Arizona, southern Utah, and southern Nevada.

Captain Montoro most recently served as the Chief of the Boards, Promotions, and Separations Branch, Officer Personnel Management, Personnel Service Center, Washington D.C. Captain Montoro’s previous assignments include: Chief of Response, Sector San Francisco; Chief of the

Command Center, Sector San Francisco; Chief of Force Readiness Branch, U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Area Command; Commanding Officer, USCGC ORCAS (WPB 1327), Coos Bay, OR; Commanding Officer, Gulf of Mexico Regional Fisheries Training Center, New Orleans, LA; Executive Officer, USCGC PEA ISLAND (WPB 1347), St. Petersburg, FL; First Lieutenant,

USCGC ALERT (WMEC 630), Astoria, OR; and Assistant Surface Operations Officer, Group Astoria, OR.

Captain Montoro enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Reserve and graduated from Enlisted Basic Training in September 1992 and is the third generation in his family to serve in the United States Coast Guard. He is a 1996 graduate of Officer Candidate School after he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of California, Davis. He holds a Master of Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island and a Master of Public Administration from Golden Gate University.

CAPT Montoro’s personal awards and honors include the advanced Boat Force Operations Insignia, Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal (3), Coast Guard Commendation Medal (2), and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal.

CAPT Montoro married Leslie Teeters in 1997 and they have three children.
